Birmingham service user groups

Service Users Say
The Service Users Say (SUS) Group is a service user group in Birmingham that has been running since October 2005. The group meets on a weekly basis and is open to current service users of Swanswell drug services. You might also like to come along if you are an ex-service user and are now drug free and think you would benefit from meeting other people who have similar problems. The group share useful information, experiences and give each other mutual support.

What service users say about the group
“SUS is a group of Swanswell service users in Birmingham who attend weekly meetings and talk about different topics. Group members bring topics for the agenda as well.

These could be difficulties we have had or suggestions on how things could be. Swanswell ask our opinions about different things and we also get to hear about other meetings that are going on and projects that we can get involved in.

I have represented the group at meetings with Swanswell managers and also at the DAT [Drug and Alcohol Action Team] to plan next year’s service user event - last year’s was called Stayin’ Alive - and designing questionnaires for service users.” Ian

"I have been part of SUS for a year. I really feel like part of a group. Coming here gives me the chance to chill and chat to other clients. I speak from experience when I say that there is nothing to be scared of, give it a try and if you do not like it you do not have to attend another meeting. Thank you." Sarah (Mum of one)
